I don't get a chance much to frequent the beaches here, I keep to myself on the east side. However I do know they are typically dirty and colored in sand the size of small rocks.... but people still head to them.
Scotland in general is a nice place. There are bad bits (in a few cities) but beyond Glasgow it is is mainly a big beautiful not-too-populated land of hills and seas. I prefer the West, with beaches and islands. In the middle, the Highlands is a semi-mountainous area of great beauty. There are two features that put people off... sometimes summer lasts about 1 day! And here are little voracious midges that may eat you alive if you are to their taste.
Out on a remote, untouched beach looking out over the Atlantic at the islands of the Hebrides, you will normally be untroubled by phone calls because often there's no signal!
Sounds just great to me! I once ran into a deviant's page with over 300 extremely well took pictures of Scotland. At that moment I decided I want to visit Scotland too. Seems to be a really great place to me, esp for the great nature and of course, the whiskey!
